That precious face makes you smile doesn’t it? Funny how the very act of smiling lifts our mood. Add a few giggles with that grin and a lighthearted feeling comes over us. No wonder the Bible says “laughter is good medicine”. (It actually says a “joyful heart” is good medicine. Prov. 17.22)
Why is it some people are “happy, happy, happy” like our local duck celebrities and yet other faces would break if they smiled? If you’ve noticed, most happy people are thankful for just about everything. And most unhappy people are almost never thankful. There really is a correlation here. But it’s not, “happy people are thankful”; it’s “thankful people are happy”.
So what do you have to be thankful for? I challenge you to list 10 things everyday for a month that you are thankful for and you can’t list the same one twice. At the end of the month you will have 300 things for which you are thankful! (Some days, you may have to dig deep.) I’m willing to bet you that if you made this a habit (being thankful), you would start to feel a sense of happiness.
Now, please don’t split hairs. I know that happiness is really circumstantial which is different from joy. Joy is a state of being happy or joyful regardless of the circumstances. But for this rambling, you can think of them as pretty much the same. Trust me, if you develop and attitude of thankfulness, you will develop a joyful heart and, thus; feel happy!
We have much to be thankful for, so start counting your blessings! There are so many that we take for granted, we sometimes forget that they are blessings at all. We can start with the verse below…
1 Chronicles 16:34 says, “O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting.”
Whew! I don’t know about you, but I am VERY THANKFUL that His mercy is everlasting!
So take another good look at that sweet baby face and smile. Imagine hearing that shrill little giggle- it just might be your giggle you hear!
Blessing to you!
