So today is “Black Friday”! The one day of the year when businesses get out of the red and into the “black” they say. Do you spend the day rushing around and getting the “best” deal of the century? Or do you relax and skip out on all the hustle and bustle.
I personally choose to skip out on the hustle and bustle. I really don’t like the pushing and shoving and I usually have all my shopping done by “Black Friday”. But “Black Friday” or not, shopping or not, the day after Thanksgiving officially ushers in the Christmas holiday. Perhaps, retailers start in July, August or September setting out their merchandise, but that’s not really what brings in the Christmas season.
I love to enjoy every season, individually. Thanksgiving is my favorite…until Christmas. Then, Christmas is definitely my favorite! Merry Christmas!
This “Black Friday” don’t let the real meaning of Christmas slip by you. As cliche’ as this may sound, Jesus is the reason for the season. He really is what CHRISTmas is all about. This year let the JOY of the season fill you and spill out of you!
I love Thanksgiving! I think it’s my favorite holiday. (But you may hear me say that about Christmas and Easter, too.) Oh well, I do love Thanksgiving.
Every year our immediate family have a meal together. Usually it’s supper after all the lunch crowd of extended family have left. This year will be different, but we will do some of the same. When it’s just the four of us at our Thanksgiving meal, we start by saying things we are thankful for. Prior to the meal, all of us write down things that we are thankful for and put them in a jar or bowl. At our meal we pass the jar/bowl and read one of the slips of paper. We then “guess” who wrote the thankful note. We keep passing the jar until all the slips of paper are read aloud.
It is so much fun and so heart warming! We love this time of thanks. I’m always amazed at what comes to light.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful
. Colossians 3:15
Why don’t you join us this Thanksgiving in counting your blessings? You may be surprised at what all you have to be thankful!
Jesus said where your treasure is there your heart will be. So recently, I’ve been thinking about what it is I treasure most – with what am I consumed.
It was shocking. There have been times in my life where I’ve been consumed with things. Then I became consumed with people. All the while, mind you, I thought I was consumed with God and His calling. Even now as I strive to live obediently to my Heavenly Father, I find that I often fall- becoming consumed with something pressing, but not something that’s eternal.
I am learning that it’s a daily process to become and stay consumed with the God of my faith, Jesus Christ, the CREATOR of everything. This election year has reminded me that the ‘throne’ in which our world is ruled is not in Washington, DC. It’s in heaven. Yes, I’ve known that, but I haven’t always lived like I’ve known that.
From now on, I want to be consumed with the Creator of all things, rather than with things created.
How often do we think, “Well, it’s too late for me to …”? You fill in the blank. Good news! It’s NOT too late to be or do whatever it is you are called to do. Think about it. Moses was 80 when God called him to lead His people out of Egypt.
I think we often have a desire deep down that we keep buried year after year because we are busy with life in the stage or season that we are wrapped up in at the time. Then one day, God whispers to us that desire we have kept deep down safely tucked away and we suddenly think “It’s too late.” But it’s not too late!
Maybe, just maybe, God wanted you to have some life experience before you acted on that dream/desire. Maybe it wasn’t the right time, but now it is. Maybe we needed a little refining before actively pursuing that desire.
I don’t know what it is that you are pondering. I don’t know what it might take to do the deep desire you’ve had. But I do know this…if God has planted a desire in you, He will bring it to completion IF you will yield to Him. That’s called surrender. And that’s what He wants so the desire will be accomplished for His glory and not our own.
If you are feeling a tug to be or do something that you’ve been thinking “it’s too late”, it’s not too late! For the Glory of God, DO IT!!
