Prayer – The Power of God

Lion

My pastor often says, “What God can do , prayer can do.”  How true!

I read a book once in which the author said that God has His angels standing at the “ready”, He’s just waiting for us to fervently ask in prayer for Him to act.  I think that is true, but we often have the wrong attitude toward prayer.

Let me explain.  I think we often act as if Jesus is our “genie” in a bottle so when life goes awry, we want to pray for Him to “fix” it.  Or when we want something really badly, we pray for Him to “give” it to us.

So then, because we have been praying in the wrong motive and not seeing the power of God in our prayer lives we begin to doubt that prayer really works.  But when we pray in accordance with His will… we will see the hand of God in action!

It may not always be His will to heal the sick, even though He can.  But it is His will that He be glorified in every situation.  So when we pray, we can ask for healing but not my will be done- His will be done. And then be on the look out for His will.  Ask Him to show you His answer.  You may be surprised!

I know that often Jesus has done so much more than I could have dreamed.  My desire is to learn to pray strictly in accordance to the will of God and see His power at work in and through me!

Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. James 5:16

Are You Ashamed?

NoAshamed

Have you ever felt ashamed? Of anything? Then you know the awful feeling it is.  Have you ever felt that someone you love was ashamed of you?  Maybe you disappointed them in some way or was an embarrassment to them and they told you they were ashamed of you.  If so, you know the devastation it is!

Jesus said if we deny Him before men, He will deny us before the Father. Now THAT would be horrific and permanent! No one wants that (even if they don’t know it, yet).

Go back with me to when you became a believer, when you were saved.  What PEACE, what JOY, what burning desire to tell the world about your NEW LIFE!!  Remember?

How about now?  Still have the PEACE of God, the JOY of your NEW LIFE and still want to tell the world about your Saviour? Sometimes as we get further from our salvation experience our fervor fades.  Maybe we’ve gotten embarrassed or picked on or even persecuted when we talked about and faith and so now we just don’t talk about it much.

SNAP. OUT. OF. IT!  The gospel of Christ is THE power of God unto salvation!  Don’t be ashamed!  Don’t be silent!  People’s eternity are hanging in the balance!

Life is NOT about you (and me).  It’s all about Jesus Christ.  It’s about His kingdom. We must tell them!  Share the gospel.  Tell people about when you were saved AND what Christ means to you today.  Tell them how you are different.  Tell them about His PEACE and His JOY even in the midst of this life.

The gospel of Christ is THE power of God unto salvation!  Don’t be silent.

Sewing and Serving

portpillows

Sew…what’s your hobby? I have a lot, but one of my hobbies is sewing. And I have recently been in the mood to sew, but I don’t have any particular project I’m working on.

You gotta love Pinterest and YouTube, right! While I was looking for ideas to appease my mood for sewing, I ran across port pillows.  These are small pillows that will gently cover an infusaport for patients who have those implanted in their chest.

Often times an infusaport is related to cancer treatment, but may be for other medical conditions as well.  In the basket above are 28 small heart-shaped, square or rectangular pillows that can be put on one’s chest under a seat belt in the car for pain/discomfort relief.  Small pillows like this may help offset pain after mastectomies or other chest surgeries and can be used under the arm of the affected side.

I decided to make some pillows and donate them to a local cancer center to hopefully meet a need, both physical and spiritual.  The pillow will help offset physical pain or discomfort and the gospel tract will offer hope for salvation.

Who knows, maybe someone will give their life to Jesus because they were introduced to Him while in a time of need.  At the very least, a seed has been planted!

But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.   Romans 7:6
What’s you hobby?  Is it something you can use to serve others?  I’ll just be it is!

The Throne of Grace

Hebrews 4-16

Wow!  I think this may be my new favorite verse!

You see, I am in NEED of mercy, grace and help from Christ right now as I am helping someone in need of mercy, grace and help. I don’t even know if that makes sense to anyone but me.

My mother used to tell me, “Be careful what you pray for – you just might get it!”  I’ve always thought that was a funny little saying and I have used it myself.  But for years now I have been praying for someone I love who has made some poor choices and is now reaping the consequences of those choices.

My prayer has been that God would send someone, in some way, to help this person get their life right with Him and get beyond the muck and mire they are in.  Well, it’s been six years and I am seeing Him answer that prayer!

But, as my pastor said, “Sometimes the way God chooses to answer our prayer is not how we expect.”  Sometimes God chooses to use you and those you love to be His hands and feet in the very thing you’ve been praying about!  Hence, “Be careful what you pray for – YOU just might get it!”

To clear the record – if I knew God would choose to use me and those I love to help this person find their way back to Christ and to walk the very difficult road on getting beyond the muck and mire they are in, I would still pray that prayer!

God is so merciful to us.  He lavished grace upon us.  How can we not do that for others? I have been guilty of thinking that I can serve Him by serving others and it be easy, neat and ‘clean’.  But in His mercy and grace Christ died a violent, bloody death separated from His Father (when God would not look on sin) to pay our sin debt so that we could experience God’s mercy and grace.

How naive’ I was to think you can ‘serve’ and ‘work’ for the kingdom and not get your hands ‘dirty’? Trust me, it has not been and is not easy being a “player” in the prayer I have so long prayed. But if one soul is reconciled to my God, my Savior, my LORD, Jesus Christ, IT. IS. SO. WORTH. IT!!!!
