Helmet of Salvation

armor1         helmetofsalvation

We are in a war.  Not with flesh and blood but with principalities and powers of the air.  It seems to me that one of the devil’s ploys in this war is to mess with our heads.  If he can deceive us or get us off track, he can take a break because we then are off in the wrong direction.  NOT actively fighting the current battle.

Think about that.  When’s the last time you started chasing the proverbial rabbit only to “snap” out of it later and realize you missed some valuable time with those you love or doing something specific God had called you to do?

Therefore, we MUST put on the helmet of salvation!  We need the whole suit of armor if we are going to be able to withstand the wiles of the devil.  The helmet is used to protect one’s head.  That is a very important part of the body, wouldn’t you say?

You are not totally suited up without the helmet.  The helmet of salvation protects our brain.  When you are wearing that helmet, you feel the weight of it.  You know it’s there. And you are consciously guarding what comes at your head.

The helmet of salvation is there to guard:

  • What the eyes see
  • What the ears hear
  • What thoughts we meditate on
  • What comes out of our mouths

With that helmet on we begin to take notice of:

  • What we watch and/or read
  • What / who we let speak into us
  • What we are dwelling on in our thought life
  • What we say to ourselves and to others

I once heard an evangelist preach on the battleground of the Christian life.  He said it is most often fought between one’s ears.  It’s the battle for our minds.  WOW!  If we are so “open-minded” that we believe anything and everything we are not being true followers of Jesus.

Jesus taught very specifically that He is THE Way, THE Truth and THE Life.  NO ONE comes to the Father except through HIM, Jesus.

Put on your helmet of salvation as you suit up for this war we are in.  Suit up every day, being careful of what and who you choose to listen to and follow.  Our marching orders are to follow our KING JESUS.

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,          Ephesians 6:10-18

Shield of Faith

armor1  shielfoffaith

I don’t know about you but some days I feel like all I do is dodge those arrows!  Thanks be to our Saviour and King, Jesus Christ, for that shield of faith!

So what is faith?

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not                           seen.” Hebrews 11:1

In this war (that’s already won!), we must guard our hearts with the shield of faith.  How do we do that?

  • We must exercise our faith by trusting our Lord.
    • Believing He is Who He says He is
    • Believing He can/will do what He says He can/will do
  • We must study the Bible, His word, so we know His ways.
  • We must measure everything we want, do or say by His word and adjust our thoughts and actions to His standard
  • We must remember that NOTHING (NO THING) is impossible with God
  • We must choose faith

Choosing faith is no easy task at times. But the choice is ours none the less. When we learn that we have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; therefore, the choice is a given.  Choose to faith Jesus!

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”   Galatians 2:20″

Jesus gave Himself up for me (and you, believer) so that we could have eternal life in Him.  That life starts at salvation.  So as you take up your shield of faith, be reminded that we may not always understand His ways.  And that’s OK because His ways are higher than our ways.  It’s our privilege to follow after Jesus.  Wherever He leads, we’re to follow Him.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7

Yes, I know we like to see the path before us, but He doesn’t always show us the entire path.  So take up your shield of faith and start marching!

Feet of Peace

armor1   Feet of Peace

I love that the scriptures say our feet are to be shod with peace.  I think that sometimes we stomp our way into a situation or we stomp our way out.  Whether we were right or wrong, we leave the other party feeling anything but peaceful!

When you have shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace you walk lightly around others.  I’m not saying you should have to walk on “egg shells” to spare hurting their feelings.  But you live with an attitude that life is not about YOU.  It’s about Jesus and people coming to Him in salvation.

So when you walk lightly around others, you are not intentionally being hurtful or judgemental toward them.  You are trying to turn them from sin. Look at what Malachi says,

True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin.   Malachi 2:6

Turned many from sin… That’s the goal.  Remember, we’re in a battle, but NOT with each other!  Our adversary is the devil, not our fellow man.  I know that is so hard to remember sometimes. But when you can see that person as a soul that Jesus died for, just like He died for you, and you can see how that person may either be hurting and lashing out or being led by the devil then you can offer the gospel of peace in which you have already shod your feet.

So this week let’s remember to shod our feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace before we head out the door.

Blessings,

Breastplate of Righteousness

armor1Breastplate of Righteousness

I’m so glad the breastplate of righteousness is not MY “righteousness”.  We are putting on the righteousness of Christ!

That being said, how do we do that?  When we surrender to Him as Savior and Lord, repenting of our sin, seeking His forgiveness and trusting Him for salvation, we are given His righteousness before God.  Therefore, when God sees us, He sees the righteousness of Christ!  Hallelujah!

Now, as a believer, it is our responsibility and privilege to live holy lives.  We do that by suiting up with the armor of God.  To protect our heart, we put on the breastplate of righteousness.  In other words, we remember Whose we are and we trust Him to lead us in His way.  He leads; we follow.

We no longer have to worry about our sin.  We only have to respond in obedience to the way the Holy Spirit leads us.  When we seek Jesus, knowing we are covered in His righteousness, we are bound to display the fruit of the Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.          Galatians 5:22-23

When we remember to Whom we belong, the ole devil and those working with him, cannot change the fact that we are HIS.  We have HIS righteousness.  We are free from sin, free from our past, free from our failures and free from the hurtful words of others!

Today and everyday rest in the assurance that you have the righteousness of Christ as a believer. So, suit up!
