Shield of Faith

armor1  shielfoffaith

I don’t know about you but some days I feel like all I do is dodge those arrows!  Thanks be to our Saviour and King, Jesus Christ, for that shield of faith!

So what is faith?

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not                           seen.” Hebrews 11:1

In this war (that’s already won!), we must guard our hearts with the shield of faith.  How do we do that?

  • We must exercise our faith by trusting our Lord.
    • Believing He is Who He says He is
    • Believing He can/will do what He says He can/will do
  • We must study the Bible, His word, so we know His ways.
  • We must measure everything we want, do or say by His word and adjust our thoughts and actions to His standard
  • We must remember that NOTHING (NO THING) is impossible with God
  • We must choose faith

Choosing faith is no easy task at times. But the choice is ours none the less. When we learn that we have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; therefore, the choice is a given.  Choose to faith Jesus!

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”   Galatians 2:20″

Jesus gave Himself up for me (and you, believer) so that we could have eternal life in Him.  That life starts at salvation.  So as you take up your shield of faith, be reminded that we may not always understand His ways.  And that’s OK because His ways are higher than our ways.  It’s our privilege to follow after Jesus.  Wherever He leads, we’re to follow Him.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7

Yes, I know we like to see the path before us, but He doesn’t always show us the entire path.  So take up your shield of faith and start marching!

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,          Ephesians 6:10-18

Feet of Peace

armor1   Feet of Peace

I love that the scriptures say our feet are to be shod with peace.  I think that sometimes we stomp our way into a situation or we stomp our way out.  Whether we were right or wrong, we leave the other party feeling anything but peaceful!

When you have shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace you walk lightly around others.  I’m not saying you should have to walk on “egg shells” to spare hurting their feelings.  But you live with an attitude that life is not about YOU.  It’s about Jesus and people coming to Him in salvation.

So when you walk lightly around others, you are not intentionally being hurtful or judgemental toward them.  You are trying to turn them from sin. Look at what Malachi says,

True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin.   Malachi 2:6

Turned many from sin… That’s the goal.  Remember, we’re in a battle, but NOT with each other!  Our adversary is the devil, not our fellow man.  I know that is so hard to remember sometimes. But when you can see that person as a soul that Jesus died for, just like He died for you, and you can see how that person may either be hurting and lashing out or being led by the devil then you can offer the gospel of peace in which you have already shod your feet.

So this week let’s remember to shod our feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace before we head out the door.

Blessings,

Breastplate of Righteousness

armor1Breastplate of Righteousness

I’m so glad the breastplate of righteousness is not MY “righteousness”.  We are putting on the righteousness of Christ!

That being said, how do we do that?  When we surrender to Him as Savior and Lord, repenting of our sin, seeking His forgiveness and trusting Him for salvation, we are given His righteousness before God.  Therefore, when God sees us, He sees the righteousness of Christ!  Hallelujah!

Now, as a believer, it is our responsibility and privilege to live holy lives.  We do that by suiting up with the armor of God.  To protect our heart, we put on the breastplate of righteousness.  In other words, we remember Whose we are and we trust Him to lead us in His way.  He leads; we follow.

We no longer have to worry about our sin.  We only have to respond in obedience to the way the Holy Spirit leads us.  When we seek Jesus, knowing we are covered in His righteousness, we are bound to display the fruit of the Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.          Galatians 5:22-23

When we remember to Whom we belong, the ole devil and those working with him, cannot change the fact that we are HIS.  We have HIS righteousness.  We are free from sin, free from our past, free from our failures and free from the hurtful words of others!

Today and everyday rest in the assurance that you have the righteousness of Christ as a believer. So, suit up!

The Belt of Truth

armor1belt

Truth is so important in our spiritual battle.  Have you ever noticed that one lie leads to another lie and then another lie and so on? But truth stands on it’s on.  The truth is… the truth.

As believers, we are to put on the belt of truth.  What is truth? Or better yet, WHO is truth?  Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.”  John 14:6

To cinch up our waist with truth makes us stand a little taller, a little straighter because we have nothing to hide.  Even when we sin, if we confess and repent then we are made right with our Judge, so we have nothing to hide. The judgment of others (may hurt but) doesn’t define us; nor do the accusations of the evil one.

Once we agree with God – He is truth –  then the Truth will set us free!  John 8:32  Check out the verses below:

  • Proverbs 3:3  Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.
  • Proverbs 8:7 For my mouth will utter truth; And wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
  • Proverbs 12:17  He who speaks truth tells what is right, But a false witness, deceit.
  • Proverbs 12:19  Truthful lips will be established forever, But a lying tongue is only for a moment.
  • Proverbs 14:22  Will they not go astray who devise evil? But kindness and truth will be to those who devise good.
  • Proverbs 14:25  truthful witness saves lives, But he who utters lies is treacherous.

Jesus has already won the victory!! Let’s gird up with truth so we can do out part and:

  • be kind
  • speak truth
  • tell what is right
  • be established forever
  • devise good
  • save lives

More than You can Imagine

GodisAble

Have you ever prayed and asked God to move on your behalf in some way and He DID! He moved so much greater than you could have imagined!  I always love that!

Sometimes now I just ask Him to show out.  Not in an arrogant or selfish way, but for Him to do something so beyond what we can even think to ask of Him.  And He does!

The Bible tells us that God’s ways are higher than our ways.  I see that truth so often.  Sometimes I see that truth when God answers our prayers far beyond what we could imagine and sometimes I see it after the fact when I realized that God allowed me to walk through something hard in order to get to a really sweet place!

God is the Creator of the universe.  He holds ALL power.  NO-thing is hidden from Him and NO-thing is impossible with Him.

Whatever lies before you, remember our God is Able!  He is able to do far more that you can think or imagine.  Give Him free rein.  You just may be blown away by what you see Him do!

Blessings to you! Wendy

Days of the Week…

weekdays

This little artwork is sooooo true, don’t you think?  I often wonder how people make it without Jesus.

It’s no surprise when you look around and see people sad, hollow and hurting.  So many people we know are trying to live life that Jesus created all by themselves and it was never meant to be that way!

In order to have “life” we must have a relationship with the Creator of life.  Jesus provides a Comforter that lives in us to remind us constantly that He (Jesus) will never leave us nor forsake us.  Whew! I need that d a i l y!

Next, Jesus calls us to live life in community – with other believers.  That’s one of the great things about church!  Yes, I know, we believers are the “church” but the other believers that make up our local church become our family; our community.  What a source of encouragement for each of us, right?

As Christians, every day should really be SONday.  After all, Jesus, God in the flesh, created each day to be lived for Him and we can do that “through” Him.  Yes, even believers have times of sadness and hurt, but never hollow because Jesus never leaves us alone.  He is ALWAYS with (in) us!

Don’t have another “weak” without Jesus – be strong in the Lord!  This week and every week!

Taste and See

taste-and-see-header-fs

At Church we often say, “Good is good — all the time.”  And He is.  That is easy to say when life is going good for us.  But what about when life seems more than we can bear?

Well, God is good — all the time.  Even in the hard times.  Even in times that we don’t understand what’s happening or why something is happening.  God is still good!

Thankfully, the Bible teaches us that God is the same yesterday, today and forever.  As a believer in Jesus Christ, that is so comforting!  We are told to taste and see that the Lord is good because He is.  This is followed up by the words “happy is the man who trusts in Him! because we are.

This does not mean that life is never hard.  The Bible teaches us that life is hard no matter what and will be harder for the believer.  BUT GOD (my favorite words in scripture) did not leave us alone to face this world.  He gave us the Holy Spirit to live in us, not only as a reminder that He is coming back to get us, but to give us power and strength so that we, too, can overcome this hard life.

Whew!  Aren’t you glad?!  I sure am!  This week, as you face your specific struggles, take a few minutes each day and “taste and see that the Lord is good“, because He is!

Blessings, Wendy
